a website a mixture of bits and pieces relating to our family and interests welcome to our website this site is a mixture of bits and pieces. the most significant items are information on our family tree and also on ralph copeland (3rd astronomer royal for scotland) and his family. the link between these items is a set of letters written by ralph copeland from 1896 until his death in 1905 to one of my great great grandfathers, fred holloway. copies and transcripts of these letters can be found on this site. you can also find some write ups of some of my cycling expeditions. these are intended as highlights rather than an exhaustive list the most recent addition to this site is my weather station. when my pc is on and the station is plugged in and the cumulus program from sandaysoft is running you can see regular updates. otherwise you can see the last uploaded data and look at the various graphs and records since 5th september 2009 when i reset it. rainfall data is suspect - i don't think the gauge works properly or may need levelled. 15th jan 2010 - the wind direction gauge is currently stuck or faulty. 15th may - the batteries in the station need changed. -- -- i have recently started a blog on one of my other interests - energy. it was originally inspired by david mackay's book "sustainable energy without the hot air" and goes by the name "before the lights go out". it is broadly focused on the challenges of bridging the energy gap from fossil fuels to alternative sources. i'm using blogspot to host it. the link on the left of the page will take you there. i welcome (constructive) comments. -- you can contact me at [email protected] links history copeland family blog of eric and alexander's coast to coast ride - 2012 blog of eric and sandy's land's end to john o'groats cycle trip 2010 panda's coast to coast challenge ride in 2012 my son alexander and i did the coast to coast ride from whitehaven to sunderland between 19th and 22nd may. you can find a blog of our adventure with some photos at panda's blog. he raised more than 400 pounds for guide dogs. land's end to john o'groats 2010's big adventure was to cycle from land's end to john o'groats (lejog)with my friend and former colleague sandy. we set off from edinburgh on the 4th june, taking a train to penzance. from there we cycled to sennen where we spent the night at the bottom of a steep hill - a warning of what was to come over the next two days! we set off from land's end the following day on 5th june 2010 and taking in the lizard and dunnet head along the way arrived at john o'groats 14 days later on the 18th june. we raised money for rp - fighting blindness. we would like to thank everyone who donated to this worthwhile cause. you can find the story of our adventure at blog of our land's end to john o'groats cycle trip you can find a list of other lejog blogs and sites at alan pewsey's site family history copeland family copyright eric percival
